Sicily
In this blog I’m not going to talk about my experiences in Malta, that’s because Malta is as awesome as ever. I’m going to tell you about my experiences in Sicily. I spent last weekend in Sicily with 4 friends I met here. We went there without knowing where to go, where to sleep or what to see. Our journey started in Valetta, where we had to get on the ferry at 6:30 in the morning. The ferry ride took about an hour and a half, most of which we slept.
When we arrived in Sicily we didn’t know what to do or where to go. So we took a cab to Pozallo and looked around. Because it was really early everything was closed, so we looked for a bus stop and found one. We Waited for the bus which took us directly to Catania. We spent the whole day there sightseeing and visiting “interesting” places. In the evening we took a bus to the airport to rent a car. We asked every company how much it would cost to rent a car for a day and unfortunately the prices were rather high. Luckily I found a second car rental building where I found a really nice girl who would give us a decent price. Since we had no place to sleep, we drove in the direction of Syracuse. We stopped at a super mercato and bought some breakfast and wine for the following evening. We drove to Fontana Bianca, a beach near Syracuse, to spend the night there. We found some beach beds and made ourselves “comfortable”. After 2 hours we woke up because of the extreme cold and decided to drive the car to a quiet place en continue to sleep in the car. The next morning I woke up in a fiat panda with 5 people on a parking lot behind a Mac Donalds.
Our plan for that day was to visit Syracuse, Taormina, Messina, and Mt. Etna. We drove to Syracuse and spent about an hour there, then we drove off to Toarmina. Toarmina is a beautiful town up on a mountain. We admired the view and visited the ruins of an old “castle” on the top of the hill. Then we drove to Messina, we stopped there for a few hours and then headed in the direction of Etna. Halfway to Etna we stopped at a fast flowing river, the water was freezing but it was really beautiful.
The sight of Etna can be seen from practically every city we’ve visited, o it was really awesome to see it from up close. On the way down we had a nice Italian lunch and afterwards we headed to the airport. We dropped the car of at the airport and took the bus to the ferries. It was a really nice roadtrip and a nice experience.
And now I’m halfway through my last week, it’s really weird to think about going home. I’ve been here for such a long time and lived on my own for so long. On the one hand it’s nice to go home, but on the other I had such a good time here that it will be sad as well. But I’m making the best of my last week by going to the beach, having drinks with awesome people and enjoying the Maltese experience. See you in a couple of days!! xx

Hallo lieverd, wat heb je weer een leuk verslag geschreven en wat hebben jullie in die korte tijd op Sicilië toch nog veel gezien. Deze hele periode is inderdaad een hele belevenis geweest en zo te lezen heb je het leuk gevonden om helemaal voor jezelf te zorgen en je eigen leventje te hebben. Wat zal je daar straks een goede herinneringen aan hebben. Het lijkt me inderdaad ook heel jammer om dat nu achter je te gaan laten maar ik vind het ook wel heel leuk om je weer te zien. Geniet nog even van deze laatste week en we hebben nog wel even contact. Nog heel veel plezier,

Nou Cas, je Engels is dik in orde! Hartstikke goed, deze trip. Nu ben je wel klaar voor je eigen leven, weg van huis...Wordt het een opleiding journalistiek? Of toch iets heel anders?
Je bent ook welkom op ons kleine festival in Loison, wellicht met vrienden?(20-21-22 juli)

Mag ik misschien vragen wat dat kost per persoon? Op internet vind ik weinig info vandaar.

Hoi Cas!
Goed te horen dat je het zo naar je zin gehad hebt. Ik heb afgelopen maandag Tim naar het vliegveld gebracht na zijn verblijf in Uruguay. Die heeft het ook leuk gehad. Misschien is je volgende grote reis wel hierheen? Wie weet. Je bent in dier geval van harte welkom, maar dat weet je al.
Ik wens je alvast een fijne verjaardag voor morgen en een behouden thuisreis. 25 juni ben ik weer in Nederland, dan kom ik ook bij jullie langs en hoop ik wat van je verhalen te horen.

Jeetje Cas,
wat gaat de tijd toch snel. Alweer de laatste week, maar wat heb je genoten, jongen. je hebt je tijd in Malta optimaal benut. En natuurlijk zal je weer moeten wennen om thuis te zijn.
Maar je ouders en zusjes kunnen niet wachten om je weer te zien, hè Marijn???
Je Engels is er een stuk beter op geworden en je hebt leuke, aardige mensen ontmoet.
Dat kan niemand je meer afnemen.
Cas, geniet nog van de laatste dagen en we hopen je snel weer te zien.
